Here Edmonds has done a huge amount of heavy lifting for you, and produced a book of fascinating material on far from straightforward concepts that is never anything but a joy to read. With others writing on the same subject the problem is set within the frame of varying philosophical trends. It is not, however, a critique of the kind of "thought experiment" that creates improbably scenarios in which there are no good choices, only less bad ones. And so in applying the broad thinking--whether utilitarian or not and I would argue Trolley problems encourage a utlitarian perspective--one must accept a context that is not only fantastic but ahistorical. And in looking at real world cases where this type of thinking is applied think medical triage it thus does not consider how the factors promoting this type of impossible decision might be avoided all together. That's not the author's intent or goal but, in thinking clearly about these 'thought experiments' there is no real consideration of how thoughtless the problem may be in promting ethical considerations within a specific moraltiy.
