Bulgular, çocukların büyük bir kısmının dijital oyun bağımlılığını madde bağımlılığına benzettiklerini ortaya koymuştur. Çocuklar dijital oyunların eğlenceli olması, kazanma ve görev tamamlama özellikleri nedeniyle bağımlılık yaptığını belirtmişlerdir. Dijital oyunların çocukları akademik, sosyal, fiziksel ve psikolojik yönden etkilediği ortaya çıkmıştır. Öte yandan, bağımlı olan çocuklar dijital oyunların psikolojik açıdan en çok şiddet eğilimlerini artırma etkisinden bahsederken bağımlı olmayanlar ise eğlendirme etkisini dile getirmişlerdir. Dijital oyunların çocukların sosyal yaşamlarına etkisinde sosyal ortamdan uzaklaşma ve aile ilişkilerinin bozulmasının öne çıktığı tespit edilmiştir.
